Tasty treats to try at the 2022 Oklahoma State Fair

It's that time again, boys and girls, the Oklahoma State Fair returns on Sept. 15 for a 10-day engagement. That means funnel cakes, corndogs and a variety of edibles on a stick. In Oklahoma, Indian Tacos and cinnamon rolls hold lofty perches on the hierarchy of traditional fair favorites.

Despite a strong roster of local and traditional fare at the state fairgrounds, 3001 General Pershing Blvd., vendors never fail to bring the new.

Last year, we saw the arrival of Mac and Cheese with pulled pork and drizzled in barbeque sauce at the Gilty Pleasure booth, Elk Sausage and Rattlesnake Sausage Corn Dogs from the Pioneer Wagon, locally owned Falcone's brought deep-fried spaghetti with meatballs, and Project Krave haunted us with Ghost Pepper Tater Tots.

For 2022, new items include a blend of spicy, sweet and bizarre combinations you can eat and/or drink.

What to know before you go:6 Oklahoma State Fair experiences to look forward to in September

Here are 14 new things to eat and drink at the Oklahoma State Fair this year:

Pizza On A Stick makes its own dough before sticking it. This year, they've got a pickle slice with special dill sauce, and dill weed.

Project Krave smashes apple pie into bites of traditional Mexican churro and serves with caramel sauce.

Locally owned Cutie Pies Concessions appears to have been told "go big or go home" before coming up with this pile-up of popular desserts on a graham cracker crust.

The Original Minneapple Pie booth turns to blueberries to freshen this year's fried-pie offerings.

The Pioneer Wagon is at it again, adding gator to its list of exotic corn dogs and letting its rattlesnake sausage branch out to nachos with Venom Sauce.

Pour & Co. is a new vendor to the fair in 2022. It will offer specialty beverages like coconut flavored cream soda topped with gummy sharks, peach flavored cream soda topped with peach rings, pineapple and coconut flavored cream soda topped with fresh pineapple, and mango flavored cream soda with chamoy and Tajin with a tamarind candy straw.

Capital City Cafe has the advantage of a proper kitchen, and this year it's putting it to work with a play on the traditional Indian taco topped with smoked pulled pork, mustard slaw, shredded cheese, jalapenos, pickles, fried onion straws and a drizzle of barbecue sauce.

Boki the Sirloin Hut brings a mash-up of Cheetos and french fries for the whole family.

Waffle Chix adds to its award-winning chicken in a waffle combo with bacon and the unofficial holy water of Oklahoma: Ranch dressing.

The Bacon Habit always brings flavor and conversation. This year, it's with coconut-crusted shrimp served in a halved coconut shell.

Gram’s Sweet Treats is bringing something truly unique with its freeze-dried saltwater taffy, Skittles, fruit, and chocolate covered strawberries and blueberries.

Gringos booth has a new way to cool off and quench your thirst with a variety of aguas frescas, which are traditional in Mexico.

A Latte Love has a frozen variation of classic, Southern sweet tea.

Sure you've had catfish. Sure you've had shrimp. Probably even had them served together on the same combo platter. But Catfish Bayou is betting you've never had them served in a halved pineapple.
