Your assignment this week: Grab a burger, some onion rings and a malt from this hometown burger joint.

It’s more important than ever to support our local restaurants. And there’s no better way to do so than making a commitment to patronize them throughout the year. To guide you on your journey, I’ve composed a list of 52 restaurants (one for each week of 2022) that should be on your Milwaukee restaurant bucket list. View the full list here.

Not every restaurant on the 52 Restaurants list is fancy. But every one offers up something delicious. Dairyland is a great example.

What makes a good burger? High quality beef, an appropriate meat to bun ratio, consistent execution and balanced toppings. You’ll find all of those things at Dairyland, a spot which definitely upped the proverbial benchmark for burgers (and more) in Milwaukee.

How do they do it? It starts with house-ground beef (that’s no small matter), a passion for their product and an uncompromising mission to offer the best classic burgers possible.

And yes, that same philosophy applies to their other offerings, including their fried chicken sandwiches and (truly) some of the best onion rings around.

If you visit them at the 3rd Street Market Hall, be sure to try their frozen custard. Rather than using a commercial mix (which most custard stands do), they make all of their custard bases onsite with real dairy and eggs. You'll taste the difference in their sweet cream custard, which showcases the quality and flavor of the milk itself, unmasked by vanilla or other flavorings. Don't miss their "flavor of the day" which is always uniquely delicious.

If you love a good old fashioned malt, those are worth checking out too (they're the maltiest).

Recommended: Cheeseburger; patty melt; onion rings; spicy chicken sandwich; custard
