Greenhead Lobster Products of Maine has recalled some of its frozen cooked lobster meat that may be contaminated with listeria.

Greenhead Lobster Products of Bucksport, Maine, has recalled 5,749 pounds of frozen lobster that was distributed throughout Maine and New Hampshire and then nationwide through wholesalers, according to an announcement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Listeria monocytogenes is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The company said the “potential for contamination” was discovered when a routine sampling revealed the presence of listeria.
